National Kook Day Web Page….
Earl Gordon Curley was, at his core, a “Paranormal Kook”,
espousing all sorts of nonsense on his powers as an “Intuitive
Psychic”. He was also real big on Out Of Body experiences.
But, being the Über Kook that he was, he embraced any and all
Paranormal subjects with verve, and his patented, and often
incoherent rants. UFOs were no exception.
So- what we need is a Curley-esque page that honors the UFO kook
who best exemplifies the sprit of Curley when it comes to UFOs.
Criteria: Consideration will be given to: abuse of Usenet and
to the posters, number of lawsuits threatened, incoherence,
alcohol/drug abuse, malapropisms (a specialty of Earls), and, of
course, overall kookiness. Of course, we do not expect any of
the nominees to be proficient in all of the above categories
(there IS, after all, only one Über Kook), so the winner would
be the one who comes closest to the Spirit of Earl.
Nominations will be submitted to the members of the Yahoo Group
AAR_Skeptics for consideration, and the vote of that august body
will be final.
We need a name for this page. Interestingly enough, both a
Google search and a Dogpile search failed to turn up a single
reference on the Web about National Kook Day! Equally
interesting was that WHOIS reports that no one has registered
NationalKookDay as a domain. So it would appear that we “own”
the rights, even though it was Garrison Hillard who first coined
the phrase, IIRC.
So we could, if someone wants to take on the responsibility,
create not only the controlling NKD organization, but the
AAR_Skeptics UFO category as well.
If you want, I can ask some of the sci.skeptics crowd to take on
the chore of developing categories and getting nominations from
their groups (which include alt.paranormal.*).
So- those are my ideas. I know that this parallels some of KOTM
activities, but we would be limiting ourselves primarily to the
UFO kooks. And in honor of Earl, we would be taking on the
whole spectrum of paranormal kooks as well.

Please feel free to applaud or trash the above. If you like,
add additional criteria, offer additional ideas, or present a
completely different proposal.
But, considering the lack of a skeptic page honoring the
memories of Earl Gordon Curley, I think it important that we
come up with some sort of permanent memorial.
Comments? Other Ideas?
