What's it going to cost? You may have noticed that all my
pages dedicated to kooks are hosted on free servers. I
personally don't feel that the kooks are worth spending any
money on. There is no real chance of recouping the costs
involved and it just becomes an on-going expense. There is
another reason I host the pages on free servers rather than
on any of my own domains. Sometimes the kooks can really go
ballistic and fire off enough complaints to the hosting
company to get a site shut down. It has happened to me in
the past. Now I completely insulate my money making sites
and personal web site from the kook web sites. That way an
irate kook can't shut down more than the site dedicated to
him if he manages to get the hosting company to take his
complaints seriously. If you decide to go through with this,
I suggest you find a hosting company with a really liberal
acceptable use policy. That's probably going to be a company
that hosts a lot of porn sites and/or other types of
controversial sites. They won't be so quick to shut you down
if they get flooded with complaints from an irate kook.

Just the cost of registering the domain. I'll take care of that part of it.
We can use the site that currently hosts the alt-atheism.org domain. It's
already paid for, and I'm losing interest in maintaining the alt-atheism.org
website, so I though we could use it to host this other domain.

True, but I've already paid for the webhosting (expires October IIRC) and
the only other expense would be the domain registration.

That is a possibility. But in the meantime it might be a lot of fun. We
could also reduce the chances of getting it pulled by not naming them
directly. Just place their kooky quotes on a page (minus their name) with a
link to google showing the complete message. If nothing else, just having
them see messages posted by someone@k... ought to ramp up their
paranioa. Some of them already think that some of us belong to some "shadow
organization". I've also thought about using 'ufo-kook-watch.net' as a
domain name as well.

The hosting is already paid for. All I have to do is logon at my hosting
company and create the new domain after I register it. The hosting is
already paid for through October I think.

If anyone can think of a better sounding domain name, post it here. If been
thinking about the following:

kook-watch.net
kook-watch.org
ufo-kook-watch.net
ufo-kook-watch.org
crackpot-watch.net
crackpot-watch.org
ufo-crackpot-watch.net
ufo-crackpot-watch.org

usenet-kooks.org
kooks-r-us.org
morons-among-us.org
kooks-on-the-loose.org
kookfarts.org
stupid-people.org
kook-surveillance.org
kook-control.org
kookstompers.org

I really like the ones that are likely to crank up their
paranoia. Anything that sounds like we would be controlling
or censoring or surveiling the kooks should make them go
ballistic.

I think I'll go with kook.watch.net, as the *.net top-level domain name
implies some sort of a network. That alone might add a bit to their
paranoia.;-)

Well, kook-watch.net is alive and well! It's rough and needs material, but
it's a start. If you'd like your very own @kook-watch.net e-mail address,
just send me a personal email to carl_w@s... with the name and
password you'd like to use.

Your request for material has been answered. I have uploaded
most of my own kook pages to kook-watch. One of the good
ones (I think) is my "What is a kook?" page. You may want to
consider linking to it from the top level page. It is at:
http://kook-watch.net/mdavis/kooks/kooks.html

Some of the other material I have uploaded is:

http://kook-watch.net/mdavis/FlySpecks/ - My FlySpecks Quote
Archive.

http://kook-watch.net/mdavis/RayRichey/ - My page dedicated
to Ray.

http://kook-watch.net/mdavis/Twonky/ - My still unfinished
but growing Twonky page.

http://kook-watch.net/mdavis/dictionary/ - The Woo-Woo
Dictionary.

http://kook-watch.net/mdavis/believers/ - My "Stupid Things
Believers Say" page.

http://kook-watch.net/mdavis/saucernut/ - My "You May Be A
Saucernut If..." page.

http://kook-watch.net/mdavis/religion/ - My "UFOism ia a
religion" page.

If I get a chance I may try to work up some snazzy graphics
for the site. I have some ideas along the lines of the "all
seeing eye" that should give the kooks paranoid visions of
us being aligned with the Freemasons and the Illuminati.
That should really ratchet up the paranoia level.

Heh! You know, I was thinking the same thing. Been trying to find a nice

I didn't get any email from Ben, but I think the "Darryl" thing was getting
to him. Any time someone made a reference to his real name, he'd get quiet
for awhile.

I still he is a nut case, what is this about "real" identity, like he is
secretly an alien or something? His comments about his new group sound
elitest and rather weird... maybe he joined a cult? I did not get this
email, so Mike why not quote it as a new sig file :-)

Happy New Year to All

FWIIW, a new poster has appeared (Once, so far) on the UFO
UPdates list- A Jean Meiners who has a uswest.com addy (which
puts this poster on the right coast, anyway). Dunno if we are
looking at the same guy- and there are lots of UFO-centered list-
serves and private groups out there.

I'll watch for this guy and see if he starts exhibilting the same kook
qualities of Ben.

Hi all,

The URL below was sent to me by midnyte (Twonky's main nemesis).
It really shows a scary level of stupidity. Has anyone else
noticed the number of people on Usenet from The Netherlands who
claim that physics is all wrong? JosX and about a dozen more of
Nutty Nancy Lieder's most vocal followers all post from there
too and they all also argue that Einstein was wrong, escape
velocity doesn't exist, etc., etc. The school system over there
really must suck.

Carl, can you think of a way to work this into Kook-Watch?

I'm not sure what the deal is with The Netherlands. They seem to latch onto
crazy ideas very easily for some reason. When I first went to Europe in
1978 on a REFORGER (REturn FORces to GERmany) exercise I ran into some Dutch
troops. They had a unionized army at the time, and they all had long hair,
beards etc. Got paid overtime for anything over 40 hours per week, and
lacked anything resembling discipline. In fact most of the guys I met were
AWOL at the time I met them. They decided to "take some time off in
Germany" rather than participate in the exercise.

Maybe their willingness to accept anything that comes along is a byproduct
of the ultra-liberal mentality they seem to have.

I'll add that to my list of KookLinks(tm)!
